표갤러리는 2023년 2월 10일 (금) – 2022년 2월 24일 (금), (재)서울예술재단과 (주)표갤러리가 공동 주최한 제 6회 포트폴리오 박람회 선정작가전 《POV — Point of View》를 개최한다.

과거 피렌체의 메디치 가문은 문예부흥의 한복판에서 수많은 예술가들을 후원하고 이를 통해 한시대를 지배했다. 하지만 메디치 가문이 예술적인 상류 계급의 상징이었다면 예술재단은 동시대의 누구나 참여할 수 있고, 작은 힘일지라도 예술가들을 후원하고 지지할 수 있는 여건을 만드는 역할을 한다. 작가와 후원자 간의 커뮤니케이션 공간으로 활성화할 목적으로 설립된 (재)서울에술재단은 미술계 입문 기회가 부족한 신진작가들을 발굴하고 양성하며, 작가들이 재단을 통해 꾸준히 작품활동을 할 수 있도록 운영되고 있다.

이러한 취지에 부합하여 2015년 이래로 6회를 맞이한 포트폴리오 박람회는 작가들이 심사위원들과의 현장 인터뷰에서 직접 포트폴리오를 선보일 수 있는 기회를 제공했다. 높게만 느껴지는 미술계 문턱을 낮추어 미술시장의 문제를 해결하고 작가로서의 방향성과 가능성을 가늠해 보는 자리로, 매년 우수한 아티스트들을 소개하고, 대중의 예술에 대한 전문성과 관심을 확대 시키기 위한 차원으로 연계된 선정 작가 전시는 큰 의미를 가진다.

2022년 12월 22일(목)에 시행된 제6회 포트폴리오 박람회는 잠재력 있는 디지털 작가들이 지원했으며, 미술계의 권위 있는 심사위원단 김나형(디스위켄드룸 대표 디렉터), 김현정(경기도미술관 학예연구사), 신보슬(토탈미술관 책임큐레이터), 윤수정(캔파운데이션 큐레이터), 정일주(퍼블릭 아트 편집장)의 엄격하고 공정한 심사를 통해 총 7명(NUUFF, 김형수, 손여울, 아파콜렉티브, 이웅철, 조영각, 추미림)의 입상자를 선정했다. 이번 선정작가전의 제목인 《POV — Point of View》는 흔히 사용되는 영어 명사와 그의 약어로 어떤 시점이나 관점을 의미한다. 심사위원들과 인터뷰했던 포트폴리오를 기반으로 준비된 《POV — Point of View》는 각자의 시선으로 세상을 보고 모색하는 젊은 작가들의 열기와 신념을 느껴볼 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것이다.

선발된 작가 7인 중 김형수작가는 우수상을 수상했다.

Pyo Gallery is pleased to present POV — Point of View, an exhibition showcasing the selected artists of the 6th Portfolio Fair, jointly organized by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture and Pyo Gallery.

Historically, the Medici family of Florence played a pivotal role in the Renaissance by sponsoring numerous artists and thereby shaping an era. In contrast to the Medici’s exclusive status as elite art patrons, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture serves as a platform that enables anyone in the present day to support and encourage artists—even in small ways. The foundation was established to foster communication between artists and patrons, aiming to discover and cultivate emerging artists who face challenges entering the art scene. It continues to provide them with opportunities for sustained artistic growth.

In line with this mission, the Portfolio Fair—now in its sixth edition since its inception in 2015—offers artists the rare opportunity to present their portfolios in person to a panel of jurors through one-on-one interviews. By lowering the high barriers to entry often associated with the art world, the fair creates space for new voices and visions. The accompanying Selected Artists Exhibition introduces outstanding talents each year and plays a vital role in promoting public engagement and understanding of contemporary art.

The 6th Portfolio Fair took place on December 22 (Thu), 2022, with a strong pool of applicants, particularly from the digital art field. The final selection was made by a panel of distinguished professionals in the Korean art scene:

Following a rigorous and fair evaluation process, seven artists were selected: NUUFF, Kim Hyeongsoo, Son Yeoul, APA Collective, Lee Woongcheol, Cho Younggak, and Chu Mirim. The exhibition title POV — Point of View draws from a commonly used term and abbreviation, referring to one’s perspective or angle of observation. Based on the portfolios presented during the juried interviews, this exhibition offers an engaging opportunity to explore the passion, insight, and convictions of these emerging artists as they interpret and reflect the world through their own unique lenses.

Among the seven selected artists, Kim Hyeongsoo was awarded the Excellence Prize.
