Exhibition Statement
'새로운 시대(New Era)’를 의미하는 전시 제목에 걸맞게 이번 전시는 한국 근현대 미술사에 큰 족적을 남긴 거장들, 현시대의 미술계를 이끌어나가고 있는 중견 작가들과 더불어 앞으로의 한국 미술 행보를 책임질 신진 작가들의 작품까지 함께 아우른다. 표갤러리 소장 작품 중 한국 근현대 미술사에서 빼놓을 수 없는 거장부터 중견작가 그리고 신진작가까지 국내 작가들의 작품 21점을 엄선하여 이번 전시를 기획하였다.
이번 전시의 참여작가는 모노하 운동의 대표주자 이우환(b.1936), 물방울 회화의 창시자 김창열(1929-2021), 베니스비엔날레가 인정한 한지 작가 전광영(b.1944), 색놀기-쓸기로 색채화 작업을 하는 노정란(b.1948), 신남종화의 대가 허달재(b.1952), 모노크롬 회화의 중견작가 박영하(b.1954), 자연의 순환을 한국적이고 현대적으로 표현하는 김유준(b.1957), 철망으로 입체적 형상을 만들고 빛과 그림자를 이용해 생동감을 더하는 박성태(b.1960), 얼큰이 캐릭터로 어른동화 같은 작품을 만들어내는 강지만(b.1975), 색채를 통해 추상화를 재해석하는 권현진(b.1980), 색드로잉으로 색면 놀이를 하는 전은숙(b.1980), 낙서하듯 그리는 두들 스타일로 작업하는 백윤조(b.1980), 연쇄적인 드로잉을 감각적인 서사로 풀어내는지희킴(b.1983), 시간-회화 작가 김형수(b.1993)이다.

Pyo Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition New Era from March 2 (Thu) to March 25 (Sat), 2023.
As the title suggests, New Era brings together artworks that span generations—featuring established masters who have left an indelible mark on the history of Korean modern and contemporary art, leading mid-career artists of today, and emerging artists poised to shape the future of Korean art. The exhibition showcases 21 carefully selected pieces from Pyo Gallery's collection, encompassing works by pioneering figures in Korean art history as well as dynamic voices of the present and future.
Featured artists include:
Lee Ufan (b.1936), a leading figure of the Mono-ha movement
Kim Tschang-Yeul (1929–2021), renowned for his iconic water drop paintings
Kwang-Young Chun (b.1944), acclaimed for his use of Hanji paper, recognized by the Venice Biennale
Noh Jung-Ran (b.1948), who explores color through acts of ‘playing and wiping’
Huh Daljae (b.1952), a master of Neo-Southern School painting
Park Young-Ha (b.1954), a prominent artist in Korean monochrome painting
Kim Yoo-Joon (b.1957), whose work reflects the cycles of nature in a distinctly Korean and contemporary visual language
Park Sung-Tae (b.1960), known for sculptural forms made from wire mesh that interact with light and shadow
Kang Ji-Man (b.1975), who creates whimsical fairy-tale-like works featuring his signature “Eolkeun-i” character
Kwon Hyun-Jin (b.1980), who reinterprets abstraction through the lens of vibrant color
Jeon Eun-Sook (b.1980), who plays with color fields through her signature color drawings
Baek Yoon-Jo (b.1980), known for her spontaneous doodle-like style
Jihee Kim (b.1983), whose sensuous narratives emerge from chains of intuitive drawings
and Kim Hyeongsoo (b.1993), a “time-painting” artist who experiments with temporality and motion in painting
