우리는 외식을 할 때, 식당에서 원하는 메뉴를 선별하거나 정해진 코스를 주문하곤 한다. 반대로, 메뉴 선택을 손님이 아닌 주방장에게 전적으로 맡기는 요리를 맡김차림이라 부른다. 맡김차림은 하나의 요리를 제공하는 것이 아니라, 셰프가 구성한 흐름에 따라 다양한 음식이 코스로 제공된다.

시각, 조형예술 작품은 귀로 듣거나 혀로 맛보는 것이 아니라 눈으로 감상하는 '물건'이다. 김형수 작가는 모니터라는 자신의 식탁 위에 이 시각적 물건들을 하나씩 올려놓는다. 그리고 관람객이 눈으로 ‘맛볼 수’ 있는 시각적 풍미를 선보이고자 한다.

맛있는 음식은 복잡한 설명이나 스토리에 의존하지 않는다. 맛 그 자체로 말한다. 이와 같은 맥락에서, 의미와 상징에서 벗어난 순수한 시각적 쾌감을 통해 관객이 즐거움과 미각의 환상을 느끼기를 바라는 마음에서 ‘맡김차림’ 전시를 기획하였다.

When dining out, we often choose our preferred dishes from a menu or order a set course. In contrast, a chef’s choice meal entrusts the entire dining experience to the chef, allowing them to select and serve a curated series of dishes. It is not a single item, but a thoughtfully arranged course that unfolds on the guest’s table.

Visual and sculptural art is not meant to be heard or tasted but seen—it is a thing to be savored with the eyes. Artist Kim Hyeongsoo presents his works on the screen, his own version of a dining table, offering visual "dishes" to be appreciated through sight.

Just as a truly delicious dish speaks for itself without needing an elaborate story, these artworks aim to delight the viewer through pure visual flavor—beyond symbols or narratives. The Chef’s Choice exhibition was conceived with this playful idea in mind: to serve visually delicious works that offer joy and sensory richness through the eyes alone.
