디지털 정원은 작가가 스승님으로부터 들은 “정원을 만들어라”는 말에서 출발한 작품이다. 이는 단순히 공간이나 배경을 설정하라는 의미가 아니라, 스스로의 꿈과 감각이 담긴 장소를 만들어내라는 뜻이었다.

초기 작업에 임했을 당시, 창작 자체는 즐거웠지만 무엇을 연구해야 할지에 대한 명확한 방향은 없었다. 매번 수업에 갈 때마다 스승님은 “네 꿈이 뭐야! 그래서 꿈이 뭐냐고!”라며 끊임없이 질문하셨고, 그 질문은 작가에게 깊은 인상으로 남았다.

이 작품은 정원을 만들고 싶다는 바람에서 비롯되었으며, 디지털로 작업을 진행하고 있었기에 ‘디지털 정원’이라는 이름을 붙였다. 작가의 초창기 고민과 바람이 고스란히 담긴 작업이다.

The Digital Garden

The Digital Garden began from the words of the artist’s teacher, who often said, “Make a garden.” It wasn’t a call to simply construct a space or background, but to create a place where one’s dreams and sensations could reside.

In the early stages of the artist’s practice, creating was joyful, yet there was no clear direction on what to study. Each week in class, the teacher would ask, “What’s your dream? So, what is your dream?” — a question that left a lasting impression.

This piece grew from a desire to create a garden. Though the name Garden alone could have sufficed, the artist chose Digital Garden to reflect the medium in which the work was made. It is a work imbued with the artist’s early questions and aspirations.
