바다는 단순한 배경이 아니라, 그 안을 살아가는 존재들의 움직임과 리듬으로 형성된다. 물고기와 해초들의 흐름은 바다를 구성하는 중요한 요소이며, 그들의 움직임에 따라 바다는 고요할 수도, 역동적일 수도 있다.

이 작업을 시작할 때, 나는 ‘바다’를 만들고 싶었다. 수많은 물고기들이 쉼 없이 오가는, 생동하는 바다를. 그러나 완성된 후 작품을 바라보니, 그것은 거대한 바다가 아니라 한정된 공간 속을 맴도는 물고기들의 모습에 가까웠다. 그래서 이 작품의 제목을 ‘어항’이라 붙였다.

어항은 단순히 물고기를 기르는 공간이 아니다. 우리는 그 안에서 유영하는 생명들의 흐름을 바라보며 리듬을 느낀다. 이 작품 또한 움직임을 통해 물질과 감각을 드러내고, 그로부터 생성되는 힘과 흐름을 경험할 수 있도록 한다.

The Fishbowl

The ocean is not merely a background; it is shaped by the movements and rhythms of the life within it. The flow of fish and seaweed forms the essence of the sea, making it feel serene or dynamic depending on their motion.

When I began this work, I wanted to create an ocean—one teeming with fish, alive with constant movement. But upon completion, what I saw was not an endless sea, but fish confined within a limited space. That’s why I named this piece The Fishbowl.

A fishbowl is more than just a container for fish. It is a space where we observe the flow of life and sense its rhythm. Likewise, this piece reveals material and sensation through movement, allowing the viewer to experience the forces and rhythms it generates.
