예당호

충청남도 예산에 위치한 예당호를 새롭게 만들어보았다. 금강둔치에 이어 충청도의 자연을 탐구하는 연작 시리즈 중 두 번째 작품이다. 같은 자연을 주제로 삼았지만, 각 작품마다 연구하고자 한 방향이 달랐고, 그 차이는 리듬의 변주로 나타났다.

이번 작업에서는 ‘비가 올 듯 말 듯한 감각’을 구현하는 데 집중했다. 쨍쨍한 햇빛과 내리는 비는 명확히 구분되지만, 그 중간 지점은 애매모호한 영역에 속한다. 이 미묘한 순간을 어떻게 시각적으로 형상화할 수 있을지 고민하며 작업을 이어갔다.

작품 속 나무의 흐름, 형상들이 만들어내는 표면의 색감은 그 경계를 탐구한 결과물이다. 화면 위에서 진동하는 움직임과 변화하는 색채들이, 머지않아 내릴 것 같은 비의 기운을 조형적으로 구축한다.

The Yedang resevoir

I reimagined Yedang resevoir, located in Yesan, Chungcheongnam-do, as part of an ongoing series exploring the landscapes of Chungcheong Province. Following The Geumgang Riverside, this is the second work in the series. Though all three pieces depict nature, each one follows a distinct line of inquiry, resulting in unique rhythms within the compositions.

This particular work focuses on capturing the sensation of imminent rain—a moment poised between sunshine and rainfall, where the shift is subtle and uncertain. While clear skies and pouring rain are easy to depict, this transitional state is far more elusive. I immersed myself in the challenge of translating this ambiguity into visual language.

The motion of the trees and the interplay of colors across the surface embody this exploration. The shifting tones and dynamic forms create an atmosphere that evokes the anticipation of rain, lingering just beyond the horizon.
