장소를 만든다는 것은 단순히 풍경을 구상하고 배경을 구축하는 것과는 다른 차원의 개념이다. 장소란 단순한 명명이 아니라, 그것을 이루는 형상들이 모여 부피를 형성할 때 비로소 성립된다고 볼 수 있다. 예를 들어 ‘연못’이라는 개념이 실제 연못을 만들어내는 것이 아니라, 물고기, 수풀, 고인물과 같은 요소들이 모여 연못이라는 부피를 형성할 때 비로소 연못이 존재하는 것처럼 말이다.

이러한 이념을 바탕으로, 작가는 정원이자 '결정체-이미지'를 만들어보고자 하는 행동강령을 장착한 채 작업을 이어오고 있다. 주공3단지는 그 행동강령을 처음부터 끝까지 일관되게 유지한 작품이라 할 수 있다. 작품을 이루는 형상들은 개별적인 다원성을 가지면서도, 함께 주공3단지라는 장소를 만들어내고 있기 때문이다. 이 장소는 누군가 실제로 거주하는 공간일 수도, 텅 비어 있는 공간일 수도, 혹은 단순히 이 작품의 표면을 구성하는 장소일 수도 있다.

이러한 다양한 해석이 가능한 이유는, 작품이 의미나 상징 같은 서사적 구조에서 출발한 것이 아니라, 순수한 물질과 감각의 놀이를 통해 형상을 빚어내고, 그 형상들이 모여 장소라는 부피를 형성했기 때문이다. 이로 인해 작품과 마주한 관람객들은 각기 다른 시선과 감각을 통해 저마다의 해석을 획득하게 될 것이다.

The Jugong 3rd Complex

Creating a place is fundamentally different from merely composing a landscape or constructing a background. A place is not simply named into existence; rather, it is formed when the shapes that constitute it come together to create volume. For instance, the concept of a "pond" does not bring an actual pond into being—only when elements such as fish, vegetation, and stagnant water accumulate to form a volume does the pond truly exist.

With this philosophy in mind, the artist continues to work with the intent of creating a garden—'the crystallized image'. The Jugong 3rd Complex is a work that consistently adheres to this guiding principle from start to finish. The forms within the piece each possess their own plurality, yet together they construct the space known as The Jugong 3rd Complex. This place may be an actual residential area, an empty void, or simply a surface within the work itself.

Such multiplicity of interpretation is possible because the work does not originate from a narrative structure of meaning or symbolism. Instead, it emerges from a pure interplay of material and sensation, shaping forms that, in turn, generate the volume of a place. As a result, viewers encountering the work will each perceive and interpret it in their own unique way, shaped by their individual perspectives and senses.
