청계리

청계리는 2024년 초, 고향 풍경을 담아보고자 하는 꿈에서 시작한 작품이다. 경남에 위치한 청계리 사진을 참고하여 작업을 시작했지만, 시간이 지나며 그 풍경성이 지나치게 강조되어 흔한 이미지가 되는 것 같은 느낌을 받았다. 이에 기존 작업을 과감히 버리고 다시 시작하였으며, 초기의 청계리 이미지는 점차 사라지고 회색, 흰색, 검은색의 색의 놀이에 집중하는 방향으로 진행되었다.
회색을 흰색과 검은색의 중간색으로 정의하는 것은 인간의 개념에 불과하다. 색들은 각기 독립된 특성을 지닌 존재들이다. 이 작품은 색과 리듬을 탐구하며 회색이라는 색의 가능성을 실험한 작업이다.
The Cheonggye-ri
The Cheonggye-ri began in early 2024 from a dream to capture the scenery of the artist’s hometown. Initially based on photographs of Cheonggye-ri, a rural village in South Gyeongsang Province, the work soon began to feel overly picturesque and generic—lacking the unique energy the artist sought to convey. In response, the original piece was decisively abandoned, and the work restarted with a renewed focus on the play of gray, white, and black.
The notion of gray as merely a midpoint between black and white is a human-made concept. Each color exists with its own intrinsic qualities. This work explores the rhythm and interaction of colors, testing the possibilities of gray not as an in-between, but as a color with independent agency.
